the eighth month

Our dear Harris is 8 months old!  his debut foward commando crawling was on sunday 17th of April 2011 and less than a week later , yesterday to be exact - on the date whereby he turned exactly 8 months old - He started to crawl on all four! felicitation mon petit harris!

today I attended  an 'early intervention programme' course, whereby one of  Malaysia's most prominent paediatric consultant gave a talk on developmental milestone.

I made a right decision not to buy you a walker ;-)

happy 8th month birthday Harris !!

Sunday morning with Harris

Salut, Harris et mon amis. I haven't really written in detail regarding Harris' solid food ( more like half solid actually ) . We began to wean him at the age of 5 month and half. I made a milked mashed potato meal.  his reaction was not very welcoming initially, he gave me this weird grimace upon tasting the food. there's a first time for everything, he had never tasted anything else other than breastmilk up to that age, so when I introduced something new, he cringed. I started off with 2 3 spoon per day then escalated it as days passed and vary the food choice over time.  Now he loves his meal time, Alhamdulillah.
The picture was his menu du jour - boiled rice with potato, cauliflowers, cherry tomato, carrot , slices of chicken and a few raisins - all blended into a puree. It tasted good :D I have never added any salt or sugar. It is not a healthy practice after all. babies' taste bud haven't fully developed as ours, therefore even if you feed him something that is bland to you it does not matter at all. don't expose your kids to early diabetes and hypertension! anchovies and salted fish are a big NO NO to babies. if you do, you had just risked your babies to developed Nasopharyngeal carcinoma later in life. at least wait until he is more than 2 years old.

this morning Harris woke up quite early. nk kejut maman et papa for prayer kot :D then we did his routine as per usual , playing, bathing, milk feeding etc. but when it comes to his meal time, he was already very sleepy that he actually dozed off while  I was still feeding him. kesian but soo cute and funny. i let him sleep and only resumed feeding 2 hours after that when he was fully awake :D
by the way harris, today is mama's birthday.

Say Merci for Allah's Mercy

Maman is back in the paediatric department since a month ago. Praise God, I'm right on track in the field I wish to pursue :) and for the past solid 1 month, I was placed to take care of NICU, the neonatal intensive care unit - basically a place to nurse and treat very sickly babies.  whenever I attend to them, i would be reminded  of how fortunate we are compared to the babies and their parents... It s soo sad.  Being a parent myself, I know what every mom would have imagined and expected out of their newborns - a term , vigorous and perfectly healthy child. But that is so not what it turned out to be in their cases. some were delivered prematurely complicated with piles of problems along with it such as immature lungs, heart failure, necrotic intestine, anemia, infections and the list goes on. some were born with anomalies, some with brain damage due to asphyxia during labour, some need immediate surgical intervention.. so sad, so so sad :(

It breaks my heart to see all these. but one thing that keeps me going is I know I am doing something to help them get better even if it could not be fully cured. Every morning, I pray that Allah keeps us healthy and fine as we are now and I  also  pray for the kids under my care to be healed and could be discharged as healthy as any other infants. God willing, they would..

Back to your milestone assessment , little Harris,  speech wise you are now able to babble 2 syllables like 'am ma mam mam' and 'ba ba ba bu ba bu ba'. soo cute! visual and hearing - very sensitive, turning to sound and able to corelate visual and auditory senses. fine motor - still palmar grasping but your pincer grip is developing. Very good at transferring objects and becoming more selective nowadays when reaching out for things. hmm mr picky? :p  gross motor : harris is very good at pulling head from couch , can be pulled to stand easilly, sit with support, able to lift abdomen and thigh but not yet sustained, and as mentioned previously, reversed commando crawling! socially : this little baby is a heartthrob! very charitable with laugh and smile, no stranger anxiety but  can be very picky when he is sleepy at night, only chooses to be carried by maman n nenek huhu ( not even the maid).

Now say, Merci Allah!
peekaboo!
